Neurospicy Series
“Neurospicy" playfully describes how neurodivergent people—those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and similar conditions—experience the world differently. Like adding spice to food, it means thinking, feeling, and processing in ways that stand out—sometimes exciting, sometimes challenging, but always unique.
Diagnosed with ADHD in 2020, I created this art series to explore my experience as a neurodivergent woman of color and a mother to a child with ADHD. Each piece is in a square format, symbolizing the pressure to fit into a neurotypical mold. I incorporate imagery, colors, and patterns from my Filipino roots to reflect both the struggle of masking and the beauty of embracing authenticity.
In Filipino culture, the well-being of the collective often takes priority over the individual, making conversations around mental health and neurodivergence difficult. Through this series, I hope to challenge that stigma and encourage greater understanding and acceptance.
